INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT – If your privilege to drive in Nebraska has been revoked as a result of a DUI arrest or citation, you must obtain an Ignition Interlock Permit before driving.
In order to obtain the ignition interlock permit you will need to do the following:
1.) Determine if your Privilege to Drive has been Revoked: Begin by checking your Ignition Interlock Eligibility
IF your 15 day temporary license expires and the DMV does not show you are eligible for the Ignition Interlock Permit, please contact us for more information.
2.) INSTALL DEVICE: Schedule an installation of the Ignition Interlock Device Assure that the installer has submitted the certificate on your behalf to the DMV;
3.) COMPLETE APPLICATION: Submit your application for interlock by using the Eligibility link above:
– Enter your information and click “Check Interlock Eligibility”
– If you are eligible, continue to click “Proceed to IIP Application Process”
4.) CONFIRM ABOVE STEPS: Confirm online or by calling the Department of Financial Responsibility to assure they have all of your information and are approved to obtain the Ignition Interlock Permit;

5.) OBTAIN YOUR PERMIT:
a.) You can now obtain the permit online using this link: https://www.nebraska.gov/dmv/dlr/index.cgi This will allow you to print out the Ignition Interlock Permit in paper form. The DMV will mail you the hard plastic permit within 30 days; OR
b.) If you are not able to obtain your permit online, schedule an appointment (if in Douglas, Lancaster or Sarpy County) to get the actual permit at a DMV location. In other counties, call your local DMV licensing center to verify if you may obtain the permit in person.

You can not drive after the expiration date of your temporary license unless you have BOTH the device installed in your vehicle AND the permit in hand.
