How to Organize Your Drug Charge Defense

Thousands of people are arrested on drug charges each year. This doesn’t mean that every single one of them will be convicted. You may well believe that you have an excellent chance of dodging these charges. It will be up to you to form a defense strategy that enables you to do so. The time for you to formulate a plan to discredit the charges made against you is now. Here are a few possible methods to consider.

Insist on a Crime Lab Analysis

The substances that the cops insisted on arresting you for may look, smell, and feel like drugs. But are they really? How can you prove it?

The best way to do so will be to get an official analysis from a crime lab. If the operator of the lab can prove that the suspected substance is not really an illegal item, you can get your charges thrown out. Even if the test should prove positive, it may be due to an error that the lab made. You can insist on a thorough investigation to prove that this may have been the case.

Prove the Drugs Are Not Yours

The cops don’t have to find the drugs on your body to arrest you. They only need to prove that you had access to or control of the drugs. But they may have been found in a car with multiple occupants or an apartment where many people were present. If this is the case, you can assert that the drugs are not yours. In order to do so, however, you will need to be diligent about sharing all the information you know about your case with your lawyer so he can present a reasonable defense on your behalf. The best way to do so is to find a lawyer early on in your case, record all the details you know about your case, and share them with your lawyer.

Beating a drug charge is not an easy task but seeking the proper legal representation is the first step towards clearing your name of false allegations.
